Bangladesh Cardiac Society is the national organization of cardiologists and cardiac surgeons of Bangladesh. It was established on 5 January 1984 under the leadership of Professor Brig. (Rtd.) Abdul Malik with the vision of improving cardiac care facilities throughout the country. The Society is committed to promoting the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, developing skilled healthcare professionals, and maintaining high standards in cardiovascular healthcare services across Bangladesh.
All qualified cardiologists and cardiac surgeons are eligible to become members of the Society, and currently it has more than 600 members. To strengthen professional knowledge and skills, Bangladesh Cardiac Society has been regularly publishing the Bangladesh Heart Journal since 1986. The Society also organizes seminars, symposiums, and national as well as international conferences every year to encourage academic excellence and professional collaboration.
To increase public awareness about the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, the Society publishes educational booklets and leaflets and observes World Heart Day and World Hypertension Day annually. Bangladesh Cardiac Society has published a Guideline for the Management of Acute Coronary Syndrome and is currently working on developing a national cardiovascular disease registry. The Society is an active member of the World Heart Federation, Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology, World Hypertension League, and SAARC Cardiac Society.
